Investing in the Future

We provide funding, encouragement and recognition to

athletes from a wide variety of disciplines and sports within Wales

What we do

Helping to turn today’s young athletes into tomorrow’s champions

SportsAid Cymru Wales is the successor organisation to two formerly separate, but closely linked, charitable bodies, the Welsh Sports Aid Trust and Welsh Sports Aid Foundation. The driving force was Ron Jones MBE former Olympic Athlete and Football Club Director.

When our star Welsh performers progress to the international stage they may well be able to take advantage of elite-level sporting sponsorships and support schemes.

However,  at the beginning of their careers it is only SportsAid Cymru Wales that offers a helping hand that could make all the difference. That is why the backing of our community is so important.

SportsAid Cymru Wales - buddsoddi yn nyfodol ein chwaraeon

Mae SportsAid Cymru Wales yn elusen unigryw sy’n ymrwymedig i helpu athletwyr ifanc dawnus yng Nghymru lwyddo drwy leihau rhai o’r rhwystrau ariannol a all chwalu eu breuddwydion.

Ers iddi gael ei sefydlu, mae SportsAid Cymru Wales wedi dosbarthu bron i £1.5 miliwn mewn grantiau i athletwyr cymwys sydd ar ddechrau eu gyrfaoedd mewn bron i 30 o chwaraeon gwahanol.

Mae’r rhan fwyaf o bobl sy’n derbyn grant yn dweud bod y gefnogaeth yn fwy nag arian: Maent yn dweud bod y gydnabyddiaeth a’r anogaeth sy’n dod gyda grant SportsAid Cymru Wales yn eu tanio i berfformio hyd eithaf eu gallu.

Cafodd llawer o athletwyr o’r radd flaenaf sydd wedi dod â balchder i Gymru ar lwyfan byd-eang, gan gynnwys y neidiwr clwydi Colin Jackson, y beicwyr Nicole Cooke, Geraint Thomas ac Eli Barker, y gwibiwr Jamie Baulch, y paralympiad David Roberts MBE, yr hwyliwr Hannah Mills a’r pencampwr taekwando Jade Jones, eu helpu gan SportsAid pan nad oedd llawer o bobl wedi clywed amdanynt. Mae pob un o’r rhain ymysg cefnogwyr yr elusen.

Investing in Our Sporting Future

SportsAid Cymru Wales is a unique charity dedicated to helping talented young sportspeople in Wales achieve success by easing some of the financial barriers which can crush their dreams.

Since its formation, SportsAid Cymru Wales has distributed nearly £1.5 million in grants to qualifying athletes in the early stages of their careers in almost 30 different sports.

Most grant recipients say it is not just the financial support that gives them a boost: They say the recognition and encouragement represented by a SportsAid Cymru Wales grant helps fire their commitment to perform to the best of their abilities.

Supporting our Young Talent Works!

REAL SUCCESS EXAMPLES

Many top sports people who have brought pride to Wales on a world stage, including hurdler Colin Jackson, cyclists Nicole Cooke, Geraint Thomas and Eli Barker, sprinter Jamie Baulch, paralympian David Roberts MBE, sailor Hannah Mills and taekwando champion Jade Jones, were helped by SportsAid when they were relatively unknown to the public. All are keen supporters of the charity.

RECOGNITION

Most grant recipients say it is not just the financial support that gives them a boost: They say the recognition and encouragement represented by a SportsAid Cymru Wales grant helps fire their commitment to perform to the best of their abilities.

HELP WHEN IT MATTERS

Exceptional performance in sport calls for many personal sacrifices by those involved. We all take pride in the achievements of our Welsh sporting representatives and it is hugely disappointing when talented youngsters have to drop out because of the financial burden on them or, very often, their parents.
